Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is arguably the most profound change that Games Workshop has done in the last 25 years. A change that threats the game style of Warhammer Fantasy players, or maeby no.

In this article, I will try to explain why Games Workshop has launched Warhammer Age of Sigmar, in my opinion a sure bet in the future but risky.

First I must say “Sorry, but something is not running good with newbies”.

Over the years that I have been working for Games Workshop and running my own hobby shop, I could appreciate the newbies. Most of them are children who came into the shop and don´t know anything about Warhammer. They look interested in the hobby that we show, but then most of them give up.

Where is the problem? Games Workshop has a brilliant method to show its games, so they has realized that maybe the problem is in their games. Nowadays newbies are much younger that they used to be.

The rulebook is a massive book for someone young. Children don´t have concentration and shyntesis capacity enough to use a manual and solvent their doubts.

Collecting, painting, gaming, and learning all hobby knowledge are skills very difficult to learn by your own, so everybody need some help. This support use to come from a sponsor, a person who show hobby world and stay with the newbie all along the way.

The new figures size has change the way that people look the game. Karl Franz on Deathclaw, Khorne Bloodthirster, The Glottkin, Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead; are great wargaming figures, but children looks them as action figures. So they want to play with their figures in this way, a simple way when the most terrific wins the battles.

Read and understand the manual, follow the rules, learn all the stats is very complicated for someone who wish fast results and has lot of fun with his friends.

So, what is Games Workshop solution?

They can´t change the newbies but change the product is possible and that is what they have done.

A new rules, simple stats and now the army is yours.

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar coming into a plug and play box. Four pages is enough to contain all the new very simple, simple rules.

Everything that you need know to use your figures are including in their stats, even dice result necessary to fight against other players.

Army list restrictions disappear. Now you don´t need buy core units if you don´t want. Just play with the figures that you like.

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is no Warhammer Fantasy new edition, is a new game for children. They can go with all theirs figure cases, deploy in a tabletop and play with his friends just checking simple stats sheets.

I think that Games Workshop will reach its objective and more and more newbies will come into hobby world thanks to Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.

But, what happened now with me? What happened if the player is not a child or a newbie?
