Although despised by some of their contemporaries and later authors, these part-time soldiers were able to defend the borders of Rome for decades with professionalism and dedication, thus proving their worth.

With this set, we want to emphasize their value when commanded by capable officers and properly deployed on the battlefield. They were more than capable of fulfilling their mission of confronting border invaders and crushing them, or at least delaying them long enough for mobile reinforcements to arrive.
