The Archon reveled in the visible fury that twisted the other general’s features—a sure sign of brewing discontent and a promise of dark courtly intrigues aimed at securing his favor next time. With a sly smile, the Archon relished the thought; no matter the outcome of the coming battle, he already possessed the perfect candidate to replace a general who might fall or shine too brightly.
