Mercenaries — Dogs of War
Characters
Marenstat and the banners without allegiance
“Dog of War” is not a guild. It’s a term that drifts between ports and campaigns. It began in Marenstat, where imperial law never fully settled, and from there it spread—practical, available, and necessary.
The mercenaries known as Dogs of War come from defeat, exile, dishonor, and opportunity. Some companies have decades of history, internal codes, ledgers, and battle records. Others last just long enough to get paid.
The empire does not name them openly, but it uses them. When the Dornhald hesitates, when the Synod cannot intervene directly, or when a House needs force without scrutiny, Marenstat answers.
Each company bears its own colors. Some work for gold, others for loot, some for silence. All are respected for the same reason: they never promise more than they deliver.
Dogs of War demand no loyalty. Just payment—and respect.
