Duchy of Avernia — Founders of the Empire
Björn Duke of Avernia
Avernia was the cradle of the throne. Under Wulfran Kaervold, it led the first unification of the High Kingdom. His legacy shaped the title of Väelthain and defined the human model of authority among equals. But that mandate did not survive his heirs.
Brandrik Kaervold tried to turn oath into centralized power. He failed. His campaign against Neverra fractured the Assembly, weakened consensus, and opened the way for Valcasta to rise as the new axis of the Kingdom.
Today, Avernia still holds the title of Valtharn and its historical prestige, but no longer sets the direction of the empire. House Kaervold maintains symbolic resistance: it does not rebel, but it does not recognize Valcasta’s leadership either.
In its lands, the cult of Halvar still defines the law. Governance has been reorganized without external oversight. Avernia no longer commands the empire, but it does not follow it.
It prepares.
