Archon’s tent

The Archon plucked the grapes from the table, where a slave had placed them with due diligence, and settled back into his throne as he watched the heated debate unfold between his two generals. The clash of their opposing strategies entertained him so profoundly that he indulged them with more time than the usual courtesies would allow. Each had proven their mettle as cunning leaders in prior conflicts, commanding ever-larger legions with each engagement. Their loyalty to the Archon was as steadfast as could be expected from dark elves driven by ambition.

Allowing the debate to rage for a few more moments, he cut into their latest fiery disagreement with a decisive endorsement of one general’s plan. The Archon reveled in the visible fury that twisted the other general’s features—a sure sign of brewing discontent and a promise of dark courtly intrigues aimed at securing his favor next time. With a sly smile, the Archon relished the thought; no matter the outcome of the coming battle, he already possessed the perfect candidate to replace a general who might fall or shine too brightly.
